Doug McMillon

President and CEO

Net Impact Conference 2016 Keynote Speaker

Doug McMillon is the current president and chief executive officer of Walmart. He has been working with the company since 1984 when he started out as an hourly summer associate in a Walmart distribution center. Since then, he has served as president and CEO of Walmart International, has served on the board of directors for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and has been recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. In addition to these successes, Doug McMillon has developed a strong team at Walmart that satisfies its customers each and every day with their mission of “saving people money so they can live better”.

Doug McMillon is a successful and impactful leader at Walmart because he is a merchant at heart and really understands his consumers and employees. He has made great differences since becoming CEO including increasing wages for hourly workers and creating better customer service all while competition from other retailers was on the rise. Not only does McMillon care about his employees and customers, but he is very aware of the issues regarding the environment and sustainability. As CEO, it is his long-term goal of Walmart’s to improve the company’s environmental sustainability and decrease waste across the entire company. As an extremely large retailer with countless stores and products for sale, it is Walmart’s goal to supply the stores with renewable energy, to eliminate waste in each segment of their supply chain, and to promote sustainably packaged goods from suppliers. Doug McMillon is continuing to turn these ecological goals for Walmart into reality in the United States as well as internationally.

Finally, McMillon has made social impacts while at Walmart and believes entirely in inclusion for all people in regards to religion, gender, race, and sexual orientation. He made the decision for Walmart to stop selling Confederate flag merchandise after the shootings of black churchgoers in South Carolina. For his very successful efforts already as President and CEO of one of the world’s largest retailers, it is no surprise Doug McMillon has been ranked as one the World’s Most Powerful People and is speaking at this years Net Impact Conference.
