It’s football season again, which means it’s time to begin the Zero Waste Initiative project again. For those who don’t know, this project is a volunteer opportunity to join prestigious guests in a suite at the home football games. This is your chance to make your impact and help educate the guests on the importance of recycling in order to help Beaver Stadium achieve zero waste. As an additional bonus, you get to watch the game from a suite, as well as have the opportunity to network and make connections.
Bella Martin, a sophomore majoring in Kinesiology and the Recruitment Chair of Human Resources, took part in the Zero Waste Initiative during the first football game. The day started with a tour of the suites and stadium. She and another member of Net Impact were assigned to the governor’s suite and met President Barron and an Executive of the Alumni Association. “It sounds kind of like you’re trash patrol, but you’re really not! You’re there standing to try and help people learn and get educated on where their trash goes specifically when you get the different recycling containers.” The overall goal is to inform people so that they can bring these practices back to their companies and incorporate them in their daily lives. Her favorite part of the game was the view, “it could almost rival the student section. It’s not quite as rowdy, but it is pretty beautiful.”
