On November 30th, Net Impact members had the honor of hearing Anna Kearney speak about the social finance movement within BNY Mellon. BNY Mellon is a prime example of how a large company can take action to drive corporate social responsibility (CSR).
We learned that BNY was one of only two S&P 500 companies with perfect scores for both climate change disclosure and performance for two consecutive years. What equally peaked students’ interests was the impressive focus on their employees and the people they serve, while maintaining market integrity.
These actions combined the foundational need for financial returns while incorporating social and environmental benefits into their practices. The overlapping ideals produced “social finance”. They were able to use investing as a tool to enable positive change in society and for the environment.
Anna was also able to inspire Net Impact members to incorporate their own personal interests in helping others and the environment into an impactful career! Click here for further information about social finance at BNY Mellon.
