Two outstanding members of Net Impact, Komal Handa and Julia D'Amico, represented the organization for the IBM Case Competition and attained 3rd place!!!
We asked them to share their success to the fellow Net Impact members, and here is a reflection by Komal on her experience in the case competition:
"The topic of the IBM case competition was about smart meters. Smart meters are replacing regular meters in gas and electric utilities around the world because they read usage in real time and transmit it to the utility company. The case asked us to outline a pilot program to implement smart meters, discuss how to get customers interested in the program, and what how both the customer and the utility would be affected. My team started out by researching all the pros and cons of the technology itself to orient ourselves with the problem. Then, we researched what actual utility companies have done in the past to implement smart meters. Next, we discussed and agreed on our course of action. We came up with ways the utility could speak to the customers to both address their concerns and promote the technology. We also came up with the idea of creating an app that let the consumer measure their usage and therefore control their consumption. Our entire case was based around the brand capsule of “Putting the power in YOUR hands”. We ended up placing third overall in the competition, which was a great experience. It was interesting to see what the other teams had come up with, and the entire team learned a lot from the competition."
We greatly appreciate their effort and commitment to Net Impact and we are confident that every Net Impacter can be like them to continue striving for excellence in what we do!
